Walking Together for our Elders

As August unfolds, I’m filled with gratitude for the moments we’ve shared this summer at St. Ann’s Community. From lively picnics and concerts to quiet visits in our gardens. These memories remind us why we come together as a community to celebrate life and connection.

That same spirit is why we’re so excited to welcome back our St. Ann’s Community Walk for its second year. Last year, this event brought together residents, families, staff, and neighbors to take meaningful steps for senior care and we can’t wait to build on that energy this year.

New York’s long-term care system is facing a crisis. For decades, Medicaid reimbursement rates have failed to keep pace with rising costs, creating an annual shortfall of approximately $1.6 billion for nursing home care alone in New York State. They cannot operate at a loss, unable to hire enough staff or even accept new residents, closing the doors on care for families in need.

When you lace up and fundraise, you help sustain compassionate care and life enrichment programs that serve over 3,000 elders across our communities—including St. Ann’s Home, Wegman Care Center, Chapel Oaks, and Cherry Ridge. Every dollar raised goes directly toward elevating quality of life for our elders. Whether you join as an individual, form a team, or support as a sponsor, your participation matters.

It affects our greater community. Those who built this country, parents and mentors who shaped our lives, who built their futures on public service and civic pride. They deserve reliable access to safe, compassionate care. Walking with St. Ann’s is more than a show of support, it’s standing up for seniors who can’t afford to be forgotten.

I hope to see you September 13th, walking for our elders. Together, we make every step count. For more information and to register to walk visit stannscommunity.com/walk.
