‘Tis The Season of Giving

‘Tis the season of giving, giving thanks and giving gifts.  My thoughts immediately turn to the 1,200 reasons why this gift-giving season is so important – our employees. Each of you truly embody our mission at St. Ann’s to Care for the Most Important People on Earth. Our employees, volunteers and community partnerships consistently amaze me with the compassion and thoughtful ways they give back to each other not only during this season but all year long.

This brings me to reflect back on this past year and all that I am thankful for.  We have been blessed with renovations, remodels and launching new businesses to better serve our residents and community.  But what I think of the most are the memorable moments that I see or hear about.  One of those stories was shared with me by one of our Certified Nursing Assistants.  She was working late.  She had finished her shift and was here on her personal time.  She was sitting with a resident who she provided daily care for.  She wanted to stay.  She stayed for quite some time that evening to provide comfort until family could arrive.

These stories remind me that the holiday season is not all about “packages, boxes or bags”.  There are so many ways to give during the holidays and throughout the coming year – especially when it comes to seniors.  Give 20 minutes of your time to read the newspaper to a resident that once enjoyed reading the paper at his local diner.  Help out a family member caring for a senior who may need some respite.  Bringing a grandchild for a visit with a coloring book and crayons – leaving behind tender drawings for everyone to enjoy.

I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and hope we have the opportunity to spend some time together in 2019.
